Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Thu, June 21, 2007 - 12:38 PMSo what's cool? what's new? Did you feel like a hip urban youth? -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Thu, June 21, 2007 - 12:49 PMI'm *way* beyond youth, but I did like the distinctive external styling, and the internal headroom/legroom. I was kind of leaning towards an Element (sue me; I like boxy), but I didn't like the Element's suicide doors, the fact that it seats only four, and the fact that it's quite a few grand more than the xB. -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:27 AMSo I noticed that the MPG went down by 10 points. WTF? -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:30 AMA couple things, actually. It's bigger and heavier and has about 50 more horsepower, so there's that. And, as an '08 they're using the new more realistic MPG calculations, which all automakers will be using for their '08 models, when they come out. -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:39 AMOne of the reasons I bought my xB was for the MPG. I get 30 city and nearly 35 hwy. That does it for me with gas at $3.50.
I was wondering if the extended back is now a big blind spot. I really like all the visability. -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:42 AMYeah, the C pillar is thicker, but in my brief drive, the side mirrors seem to cover that area pretty well.

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:46 PMOk is any one else getting the expected 30 - 35 miles per gallon I know I am not. I get like 27 and 29 -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:48 PMI think that's why starting with '08 models, MPG estimates will be more realistic. -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sun, June 24, 2007 - 9:39 AMWell if I drive respectably, I get good milage. If I drive quick starts, fast freeway, passing, punch it uphill; I get less. Also, I read in Consumer Reports that if you put a rack of any kind on your vehicle it can rob you of up to 10 mpg with the drag factor. -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Sun, June 24, 2007 - 9:41 AMHow to save gas via ‘hypermiling’
Hypermilers say many of their techniques can help even drivers of conventional cars boost their gas mileage:
— Avoid jackrabbit starts.
— Slightly overinflate tires.
— Shift into neutral when going downhill.
— Drive 5 mph below the speed limit, but stay in the right lane.
— Coast to a stop at red lights.
— Shut off the air conditioner.
— Monitor your mileage on a real-time gauge and adjust as you go.
— Draft sensibly behind tractor-trailers.
— Know alternate routes to avoid stop-and-go traffic.
— Park at the highest point in parking lot and let gravity get the car moving. -

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Tue, August 7, 2007 - 1:05 PMDepending on where you are and how they manage fuel can affect you too. Apparently, up here in the Southern Washington/Portland, OR area, the gas is spiked with a 10% ethanol mixture in the winter time and that affected my mileage noticeably: I went from my normal 32mpg (even driving like the Californian I am) down to a piddly 27mpg in the winter.

Re: I drove an '08 xB today...
Tue, July 3, 2007 - 5:51 AMI do. I live in Dallas and get 30 - 35. On long trips with no A/C I can get up to 38 using cruise control. I love my '06 XB!
